Was Going Dutch better off unpublished, let alone translated into Spanish? Probably, but at least it got me a free bean burrito on my last visit to Taco Bell.

Additional Comments

I never planned on having My Little Pet Dragon translated into Norwegian until I saw the series Lillyhammer on Netflix. It made me think back to a movie I saw last October, Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead, also set it Norway, and made me realize that I was fascinated by their culture. So begins my first foray into Norwegian culture. After completing this, I suspect there will be quite a few more adventures along the way.

Additional Comments

I was afraid I'd forget all about this one, so I set aside a few hours on a Saturday morning and got it done. It's just a straight Dutch translation; a departure from the bilingual versions I've  published recently. Still, I'm surprised how quickly it came together and how good the final version looks. More translations also waiting on the wings, so I'll take a break from Dutch and publish more Spanish, Italian and French versions that demand my attention.

After a massive row with her parents over intolerable relatives, Katie finds herself all alone for the holidays. So she heads for the one place in town where everyone is welcome on Christmas Eve, the legendary Purple Owl Café.

The Purple Owl Café has a chequered sixty-year history. These days it’s not just a place for good music and conversation, it also happens to be a lesbian bar.

Additional Comments

I gave a bit more detail about writing this story here: http://corabuhlert.com/2015/01/02/a-new-release-for-the-new-year-christmas-eve-at-the-purple-owl-cafe/

In many ways, this is also a very timely story, because the characters discuss political events (anti-immigrant protest marches here in Germany) that were happening as I wrote it. This is also why I'm happy to have published it as soon as it was ready - because it might have seemed dated next year.

Title: Weekend Getaway
Author: Donald Rump
Genre: Humor/Fart Fiction
Total Words: 5,000+
Completion Time: ~12 hours

Description

When Martin Dollop and Arthur Bodine set off for a romantic vacation in the islands, they have no idea what they're in for. Now rotting away in a Mexican jail cell, it appears that they've reached the end of their rope. Even the pinche guard won't do them the honor of putting a bullet in their heads, and offers each a shot of poison to end their suffering.

Will the two lovebirds cash in their free weekend getaway and make things right between them? Or will the doomed couple kill each other in the process?

For mature (and not so mature) audiences. Approximately 5,100 words.

Additional Comments

This is one of those stories that has been sitting on my hard drive for the past few months that I thought I'd never get around to editing. The initial draft was deeply flawed, and without a complete overhaul (and remake of the main characters), it just wouldn't work.

I'm as surprised as anyone to see this work finally published. If I can make sense out of this ridiculous work of fiction, I guess I can write just about anything.
